Getting to design logos for the Navajo Nation's Canyon de Chelly National Monument has probably been the coolest, most challenging thing I’ve done yet as a designer. So when Monument Hospitality approached us for a new logo for their lodge, suffice it to say I was a little nervous. They wanted a logo in the shape of a Thunderbird that was simple, yet still invoked the voice of their people. As a culture that is full of symbolism, this was no easy task. In the end, we settled on a spiral to represent movement, the stair-stepped wings to symbolize the shapes within Canyon de Chelly, and a gentle gradient to showcase the sunrise. First logo final selection.
